Description of Ultima II: The Revenge of the Enchantress...

Ultima II: The Revenge of the Enchantress... (aka ウルティマ2 女魔法使いの復讐, Ultima 2), a really nice role-playing (rpg) game sold in 1983 for DOS, is available and ready to be played again! Also available on Mac, Apple II, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, Commodore 64, FM-7 and PC-88, time to play a fantasy, sci-fi / futuristic, turn-based and puzzle elements video game title.

Ultima 2 can be upgraded using the patch provided by The Exodus Project.

The DOS version available on GOG works well. It is also recommended that you then apply a fan upgrade that improves the graphics and corrects a few bugs, which is available here: https://exodus.voyd.net/projects/ultima2/

Runs well.

As for the game itself, you can take two approaches:

1. Follow a walkthrough. That is what I did and unfortunately, there is zero fun with that approach. All you do is mindlessly farm gold to progress your character and eventually the storyline (bribing certain NPCs). Gold farming is securing a ship and basically one-shotting mobs along the coast with really, no risk to your character. It’s brainless and unfun.

2. The other approach is to figure things out on what to do by talking to various NPCs to solve what to do. Maybe there is a mildly fun game doing that.

Just like my critique for Ultima 1, it’s a poor CRPG based on how a character progresses (levelling doesn’t accomplish anything, you just buy progression).

Doing dungeons are pointless. As a result, class differentiation is pointless. Don’t waste your time with this slop.

What ? You don't need anything from the bartender. The ring to go to Minax is sold by someone under "Atree" in that town in America. Same with the only sword able to hurt her, it's sold in that same city by someone in prison. For the rest, they are dropped by Thieft when you slay them.

The bartender only offer tips and one of the NPCs says "great game" indeed... But that's in the transcript.

Oh, and that's a true game from Richard Gariott, he only allied himself with Sierra On-line because they were the only ones which accepted to sell a clothed map with the game... So no, it's not something made by them "based on what Richard said". It's not because the game is bad that suddenly, Richard Gariott isn't the true author, he can still makes mistake ! Also I don't think the idea of using the Earth was so bad, as himself said, it was necessary to really grasp the impact of time travel since he couldn't exactly show another world with different time period like Chrono Trigger, they didn't had the graphics for that to have any impact.

Nah, the real problem with this game is that you have to grind so many monsters for gold and objects that it's not even funny...

This is not a playable version. When you go to the pub & try to buy something, the bartender just say, "Great game, isn't it?" That's the sign that the old copy protect is still alive & working. The player disc didn't get emulated in the correct format. The bartender has vital equipment you need. If you can't buy the equipment, you can't finish the game.

Of the first six Ultimas, this one always ranks last. Turns out it wasn't produced by Origin, but by Sierra Off-Line based on a plot idea by Richard Garriott. Most Origin employees disliked talking about the game, and when the first boxed sets were being released there were polls taken internally that were almost unanimous in urging Richard to veto releasing the sets with this game included. The beancounters won, and the game refused to go away.

To create a new character you have to edit the file "PLAYER" with notepad.
Delete everything written in the file then save it.
I'm not sure that's the right way to do it but it worked for me.
