New Doctor Strange 2 Trailer Reveals More Footage of Scarlet Witch

Doctor Strange, Multiverse of Madness

While the Disney+ series Moon Knight may be the next Marvel Studios project that fans will see, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will drop right at the tail end of its run, becoming the next big blockbuster film to hit theaters. The movie will see the titular sorcerer team up with his ally Wong and newcomer America Chavez to try to save the Multiverse—namely from Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch.

While Wanda may have been the protagonist in her recent series WandaVision, she still wasn't in the best frame of mind by the time the credits rolled. She had become obsessed with the Darkhold, a book that holds dark magic- magic that seems prone to give off the wrong kind of influence.

The second trailer for Multiverse of Madness didn't paint Olsen's former hero in the best of lights. It's clear she's going down a darker path. At one point she's even covered in blood, indicating that she may have hit full-blown crazy.

Well now, some new footage gives a brief glimpse of Scarlet Witch's potential turn to the dark side.

New Footage of Scarlet Witch Revealed

In a new promotional trailer for Cinemark, Marvel released brand new footage from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that features Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff, aka The Scarlet Witch.

The shot is brief, but it sees the camera move around Wanda as she does her creepy floating ritual—or whatever it ends up being.

The camera's movement is rather unsettling; a likely intentional effect, one that will bring focus onto the evil influence of the magical book she has been studying for.

The full trailer can be watched below:

Will Wanda Maximoff be a full-blown baddie? Or will she maybe just pull a few reckless moves to try and find her children? Either way, the grip that the Darkhold has over her will likely not be easy to shake off.

Also included is an even shorter shot that hasn't been seen before. It shows Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange saying "Prove it" to Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez, who is just on the edge of the frame.

Doctor Strange v Scarlet Witch

It seems all but inevitable that, at some point in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange will end up throwing magic at Elizabeth Olsen's tragic hero. If Wanda wants to see her children again, it looks like it could end up breaking all of reality; but that fact might be something she's a little blind to at the moment.

What's great about the potential focus on a direct conflict between Strange and Wanda is how it could blow the doors right open on the lore of magic within the MCU, giving audiences a unique window into how it all works. In fact, it could easily set the stage for the upcoming show Agatha: House of Harkness, which will bring Kathryn Hahn's infamous villain back into the picture.

As much as 2016's Doctor Strange was about magic, it never truly dove into what makes the sorcerer's magic different from the Chaos Magic that Wanda uses, or even the green illusion magic wielded by Loki (most recently towards the end of his solo outing). But, it's also important to keep in mind that the movie has to explain the intricacies of the Multiverse and how it works in the MCU—so the project has a lot on its plate.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6 later this year.
