Intel “Raptor Lake” desktop and mobile series appear on a leaked roadmap

Intel Raptor Lake to provide Gaming optimizations over Alder Lake

We received a roadmap featuring Raptor Lake, Intel’s yet unannounced mainstream CPU series.

The roadmap is clearly not new. It still claims that Rocket Lake would launch in 2020. The upcoming 11th Gen Core series was pushed back to March around the fourth quarter last year, which is when this slide could have been made.

According to the picture received, Raptor Lake is indeed a successor to Alder Lake, the upcoming 12th Gen Core series featuring Intel Hybrid Technology with high-efficiency and high-performance cores. Raptor Lake would provide optimizations for this technology and an improved CPU Cache for gaming.

Intel Raptor Lake Desktop

We have already been told that Raptor Lake is basically a refresh of Alder Lake, which makes a lot of sense. It was previously rumored that “Meteor Lake” might launch immediately after Alder Lake, but the former is already expected at 7nm SuperFin architecture, which seems too soon, considering Intel’s problems with this node. Intel Raptor Lake would, on the other hand, still use 10nm Enhanced SuperFin.

Intel Raptor Lake Mobile

What is also interesting is that Intel is planning to launch Raptor Lake for both desktop and mobile segments. Each with its own set of features. The mobile Raptor Lake would feature DLVR power delivery. This acronym has not been used by Intel yet, but one would guess it has something to do with the dynamic load voltage regulator. The mobile series would also feature LPDDR5X memory, an upgrade over Alder Lake’s LPDDR5.

Just a few days ago we reported on Lunar Lake. At the time it would seem that the codename refers to the 14th Gen series, but a confirmation of Raptor Lake would suggest that Lunar would actually be 15th Gen core.

Of course, it is possible that Intel might have modified the roadmap since this slide was made, it is clearly a few months old. So far only Rocket Lake has been pushed back to 2021, but Alder Lake is still scheduled to launch this year. What seems interesting and impressive at the same time is the fact that we have information on as many as five yet unreleased architectures.

It is worth noting that Intel Raptor Lake was first mentioned in an article at Prohardvare back in September last year. It was described as an enhancement over Alder Lake.
