Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Benchmark: Antutu and Geekbench Scores

Qualcomm’s most powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (Codenamed SM8550), was officially introduced at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Tech Summit event. The announced chipset has also addressed issues with its predecessor, i.e., Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. We can expect fewer heating and performance issues on this new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chipset than on the 8 Gen 1 manufactured by Samsung based on their fabrication process having heating and stability issues.

After the launch, many Android OEMs said they would launch their flagship smartphones with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This article will examine the benchmark scores like Antutu performance and Geekbench scores of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

Before proceeding with the Antutu scores and Geekbench performance, let us understand the chipset’s features, details, and specifications to know its capabilities.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Specifications and Features

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is manufactured by TSMC’s 4 nm fabrication process compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 manufactured by Samsung. It has the Cortex ARM-X3 as the primary core, the most potent core at present; four performance cores clocked at 2.8GHz, of which two are Cortex A715, and two are Cortex A710. Along with that, there are three efficiency cores clocked at 2.0GHz, having Cortex A510. The new Adreno 740 GPU is also embedded with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

Compared to the previous generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the result specs sheet by Qualcomm claims that the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 offers up to 35% increased CPU performance and a 40% increase in power efficiency. Regarding the GPU performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 offers up to 25% performance improvement and 45% power efficiency improvement. Regarding the AI (Artificial Intelligence) capabilities, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 offers 4.35x performance improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1. It also has improved by 60% performance-per-watt for sustained AI inferencing. The chipset also brings a new Snapdragon X70 5G modem.

Regarding Gaming improvements, Qualcomm said concerning the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, “Gamers will also be able to experience photorealistic human characters in their games with the world’s first mobile-optimized support for Unreal Engine 5 Metahumans Framework on Snapdragon.” Along with that, the chipset also has hardware-accelerated ray tracing. With all the significant parameters covered in the specifications of the chipsets, let’s move on to the benchmark scores of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chipset.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Antutu Score

  • The Antutu score of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is 1,293,410 points.

Before proceeding with the Antutu scores resulting from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chipset, it should be noted that the actual real-world performance and the on-paper Antutu scores may have significant differences. Benchmark results like Antutu scores and Geekbench scores are conducted to test the estimated power and performance of the processor. The actual world usage of the chipset can only be identified by the consumer using and analyzing the chipset.

The Antutu scores obtained on a smartphone are impressive. For reference, the resulting points conducted on an unknown Vivo smartphone (Probably the upcoming Vivo X90 Pro+ 5G) powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chipset is 1,293,410, scoring nearly 1.3M+ points. Compared to last year’s Moto Edge X30 smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the device scored 1,061,361 points in the Antutu benchmark test. On the other hand, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered realme GT 2 Pro scored 1,025,215 points in the Antutu benchmark results.

However, there can be a difference among the different Android OEMs using the chipset based on RAM management, optimization power, stability management, etc. Also, the real-world performance of the chipset may vary based on the conditions and surrounding environment.

We only have the Antutu benchmark results on one unknown smartphone from Vivo. Many other smartphone manufacturers will soon share their part of Antutu scores, having great results. We will update the article accordingly if we get scores from other major Android OEMs. Make sure to be connected with us.
